What started as a solo project by Madeline Link (under the name PAX) has since blossomed into one of the most exciting rock bands coming out of Toronto. With the addition of Shane Hooper (drums), Noah O’Neil (bass), and Dexter Nash (lead guitar), the solo project rebranded under the present band name, PACKS. After signing with the Toronto record label Royal Mountain Records back in February of 2021, the band released their LP Take The Cake in May. The album features the singles Two Hands, New TV, and Silvertongue. If you’re a fan 90’s alternative/slacker rock, this is a can’t miss album. This album is laced with wicked guitar riffs that sound like they’re straight out of the Scott Pilgrim vs. The World soundtrack and catchy, relatable lyrics that will be stuck in your head for days. Throughout the album, you’ll find themes of loss, introspection, feeling directionless, and collecting yourself after a breakup, themes that are all too relatable for many people during this past year. PACKS have only just begun their musical career and possess maturity beyond their years, showing once again that Toronto’s emerging indie rock scene is top notch.
