Denim Blù

Pop, R&B

Zachary Osborn, Music Associate, Radio FWD

2021 was a big year for Denim Blù. The Chinese born queer artist and U of T masters student released his debut album Burn, a pop album that takes inspiration from a wide variety of genres including blues, dance, electronica, and R&B elements, all while being unapologetically queer. In addition, the album includes narrative writing and talks about youthful and volatile love, heartbreak, and queer love, a topic that is not commonly found in pop music. Since the release he was highlighted on Music Ontario’s Member Spotlight page and was stole the show at our #BloomMonologues show in partnership with the UTSC Women and Trans Centre and The Pears Project. Standouts from his debut album include Burn, Extraordinary Feel, and I’ll Die. Denim Blù has mentioned that the project was created during his Masters program at U of T for Music Technology and Digital Media and that he is hoping that the songs he wrote during the pandemic will be released in the summer of 2023, which we are excited to hear!
