Cutsleeve

Alternative, Indie Rock

Zachary Osborn, Music Associate, Radio FWD

Cutsleeve is a queer, East Asian rock band based in Toronto that has been making a lot of noise since the release of their debut EP the parts we could not abandon in 2020. The band is not shy with they write about in their songs, touching on serious and important themes such as queerness, misogyny, and diaspora. The band consists of Chanel on vocals and keys, Amanda on vocals and rhythm guitar, Hannah on lead guitar, Hillary on bass, and Lian on the drums. Personal highlights on their EP include yellow fever which touches on modern day fetishization and has wicked fuzzy guitar riffs throughout the track. In addition the song shatter features some of the most impressive yet heartbreaking vocals on the EP. Over the pandemic the band has been working on music videos for the EP (and hopefully new music) and will be opening up for Nova Twins when they play their Toronto show at Sneaky Dee’s. Cutsleeve is not only wowing us with their music, they also how to be an inspiration and provide support for those who have gone through similar experiences that they talk about in their music.
